Learn how to set up and use a sewing machine for free-motion machine embroidery – a little like sketching with a sewing machine!
Janet will introduce you to a range of techniques including appliqué, bonding fabrics and fabric manipulation, helping you build confidence and experiment with colour, texture and stitch.
What you'll create
Create your own fabric art bowl
Using a selection of fabrics and materials, you’ll create your own richly textured fabric art bowl to take home.
You’ll learn how to combine and bond fabrics before adding free-motion machine embroidery and shaping your finished piece into a three-dimensional bowl.
With a small group of up to six people, there’s plenty of time to experiment, learn new techniques and receive individual guidance from Janet.
Everything you need
All materials are provided
There’s no need to bring any equipment or materials. Sewing machines, fabrics and everything you need to create your bowl will be provided.
With more than 30 years’ experience teaching art and textiles, Janet creates a relaxed and welcoming environment where you can experiment, learn new skills and enjoy being creative.

One relaxed creative day
Whether you’re completely new to free-motion embroidery or already have some experience, the workshop is designed to be relaxed, friendly and unpressured. Janet will demonstrate each stage and be on hand throughout the day to offer help and guidance.
