...from teaching art and textiles in schools and adult education centres, to my own creative work, specialising in fine art textile sculptures.
I firmly believe that everyone is creative, and devises inclusive workshops where everyone is welcome and can discover their ‘inner artist’ in a fun, light-hearted environment.
I’ve always had an innate desire to create. From as early as I can remember, I was doodling on everything and anything! The sacred spiral is a constant in my art, with its repeated rhythms sculpted into ever-evolving forms. Its image is found everywhere in nature, full of life, growth, evolution and expansion.
I was always drawn to textile art and the ability to create tactile, sculptural pieces. In my latest work, I create new fabrics by bonding layers of net and organza. The layers are embellished with spirals using free motion embroidery.
This technique is the closest I can get to doodling with a sewing machine. It’s mesmerising and meditative, building up colours and textures. Each part is hand stitched and moulded and worked until, out of the layers, emerge jellyfish, deep sea creatures and fungi found in ancient woodlands.
